Special Projects:

As part of a recruitment plan to attract the brightest public school students in the five boroughs to The City College of New York, the College has established a new scholarship program that guarantees recipients up to $24,000 in support over four years. Beginning with an inaugural class enrolled in the fall 2009 semester, up to 100 entering freshmen, each with a minimum combined SAT score of 1150 or the equivalent on the ACT and an 85 high school average, will receive awards annually.

Sponsored by Yvette and Larry Gralla, who graduated from CCNY in 1953 and 1951 respectively, the scholarships will include stipends of $6,000 a year renewable for up to four years. For New Era Scholars admitted to CCNY’s Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education the period of support will be five years. Students must maintain full-time enrollment and a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. to remain eligible.

Scholarships will be offered to graduating seniors who meet the requirements from ten top public high schools across New York:

A retired trade magazine publisher turned philanthropist, Mr. Gralla and his wife have been pivotal in turning CCNY into a magnet for high-achieving students from New York’s most rigorous public schools. In 2002, they established the Stuyvesant-CCNY Scholarship Project which provides scholarships to outstanding students from Stuyvesant High School (Mr. Gralla’s alma mater) to attend CCNY. Similar programs have been established with Bronx High School of Science and Brooklyn Technical High School. As is the case with those successful programs (described individually on our web site), The City College Fund administers the New Era Scholarship project.
